I am pleased, honored and humbled to be invited by the President of China Home and Abroad News Press, Mrs. Wei Yan, to attend this award ceremony, and I am glad to be here to share this glory moment with you as the “News Person of the Year 2023”. It has great feeling to be up here and with this award in my hand. Every time I look at it, it will remind me of this moment and how much it means to me.
应中外新闻社总裁韦燕女士的邀请，出席本次颁奖典礼，我感到非常高兴、荣幸和惭愧，也很高兴能作为 "2023年度《中外新闻》新闻人物 "在这里与大家分享这一荣耀时刻。能站在这里，手里拿着这个奖，感觉非常好。每次看到它，我都会想起这一刻，想起它对我的意义。
Ladies and Gentlemen!As we all know, the news media plays an important role in international diplomacy. It’s an important source of information for international diplomacy; it helps diplomats be active and effect every particular situation from the strong positions of the participants rather than just the observers. The news media transmits the policies and positions of governments of various countries through reporting on culture, economy, science, and technology among countries. This can enhance understanding among people and promote friendship among countries.
女士们，先生们！众所周知，新闻媒体在国际外交中发挥着重要作用。它是国际外交的重要信息来源；它帮助外交官从参与者的强势立场出发，而不仅仅只是作为旁观者，积极影响每一个特定的局势。新闻媒体通过对各国文化、经济、科学和技术的报道，传递各国政府的政策和立场。这可以增进人民之间的了解，促进各国之间的友谊。
Home and Abroad News Press, as a unique and innovative global media platform, has contributed to the bilateral relationship between China and other countries by providing us with positive energy and data. This energy has made the world closer and has connected the world not only with hearts but also with affection.

Ladies and Gentlemen!Home and abroad provide us with information, especially since many of our diplomatic colleagues use this platform to exchange views and get to know China better by offering field trip opportunities. It has been making a great contribution to promoting world peace and development; it’s a friendship bridge between China and other countries.

Ladies and Gentlemen!As an Ethiopian Ambassador to China, please allow me to briefly say this: Ethiopia and China enjoy historic and time-honored friendships that have been championing the course of history over the past 50 years and above. The realm of our cooperation is expanding over time, encompassing several areas of mutual interest. In October this year, our two leaders uplifted our bilateral relationship to an All-weather strategic partnership, which shows the level of trust and solidarity between the two ancient countries.
女士们，先生们!作为埃塞俄比亚驻华大使，请允许我简短地说几句： 埃塞俄比亚和中国有着历史悠久的友谊，在过去的 50 多年里，两国的友谊一直引领着历史的进程。随着时间的推移，我们的合作领域不断扩大，涵盖了多个共同感兴趣的领域。今年 10 月，两国领导人将双边关系提升为全天候战略合作伙伴关系，这表明了两个古老国家之间的信任和团结。
Please, allow me to say a few words about my beloved country Ethiopia. Ethiopia is an ancient country in Africa located in the horn of Africa with more than 120 million people. Ethiopia is ‘the land of origins’. It is the cradle of humankind with long history of political community and statehood. Many of its tangible and intangible heritages are registered by UNESCO. More importantly, Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and is one of the leading exporters of Coffee globally. Ethiopia’s coffee Arabica has a unique aroma, taste, and flavor chosen by many of its consumers including Chinese. Furthermore, Ethiopia is a home to many endemic animals, and plants, world-class athletes, and the gluten-free special super food called locally “Injera” made from cereal crop called ‘Teff’.

Ethiopia is a country with the largest economy in the Horn of Africa, and it is a great nation striving to become beacon of prosperity in Africa. To realize this objective, the government of Ethiopia has adopted a “Home Grown Economic Reform” and embarked on the implementation of the reform since 2018 whose primary focus is on sustaining economic growth through creating an economic environment supportive to private investment and structural transformation. In the past five years the reform policy has brought significant result in encouraging private sectors and in attracting foreign direct investment for instance in the field of telecom and e-commerce.
埃塞俄比亚是非洲之角经济规模最大的国家，也是一个努力成为非洲繁荣灯塔的伟大国家。为了实现这一目标，埃塞俄比亚政府采取了 "本土经济改革"，并从 2018 年开始实施改革，其主要重点是通过创造有利于私人投资和结构转型的经济环境来维持经济增长。在过去五年中，改革政策在鼓励私营部门和吸引外国直接投资方面取得了显著成效，例如在电信和电子商务领域。
As the seat of the African Union, Ethiopia is one of the dynamic countries in Africa with the most preferable aviation and logistics hub and transit beyond the continent. As of Today, Ethiopian Airlines flies to sixty destinations in Africa, and to one hundred sixteen destinations all over the world. It serves a network of one hundred twenty five passenger destinations. Currently, Ethiopian Airlines has thirty one flights per week in to china. It is also worth mentioning that its location and resources gives Ethiopia greater opportunities to attract more foreign direct investment.
作为非洲联盟的所在地，埃塞俄比亚是非洲充满活力的国家之一，是非洲大陆以外最理想的航空和物流枢纽和中转站。截至目前，埃塞俄比亚航空公司的航班飞往非洲 60 个目的地和全球 116 个目的地。它的客运网络覆盖 125 个目的地。目前，埃塞俄比亚航空公司每周有 31 个航班飞往中国。值得一提的是，埃塞俄比亚的地理位置和资源为其吸引更多外国直接投资提供了更多机会。
Last but not least, I am pleased to accept this award and join past recipients who I have long admired and respected. Winning this award would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from my senior colleagues, for whom I have the deepest respect and from whom I have derived the strength to challenge myself and perform better at each stage. I wish this 22nd anniversary and award ceremony of Home and Abroad News Press a complete success, and once again, thank you for awarding me the “News Person of the Year.”
