On May 18, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the “Outstanding Diplomat Medals” to eight foreign ambassadors to China, including the Former Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov, the Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, the Kazakh Ambassador to China Shakhrat Nuryshev, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to China Abdulrahman Alharbi, the Former Chadian Ambassador to China Allah-Maye Halina, Colombian Ambassador to China Sergio Cabrera Cardenas and the Former Uruguayan Ambassador to China Juan Fernando Lugris Rodriguez. Some medal receivers are the members of the Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club, which extends its congratulations to the award-winning ambassadors.

He expressed hope that these distinguished envoys would continue to contribute to the promotion of friendship between China and other countries, and stated that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is willing to provide strong support to serving envoys in the performance of their duties.

Among the eight award receivers, the one drawing the most attention was the Former Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov. This longtime friend served in Beijing for a full decade, from 2013 to 2022, and was a firsthand witness to the golden age of China-Russia relations. The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Strategic Partnership of Coordination and Cooperation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the “Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between China and Russia”. With these two significant milestones falling in the same year, presenting the award to Andrey Denisov effectively combines personal recognition with a commemoration of this relationship. The timing of presenting the “Outstanding Diplomat Medal” holds special significance, as Putin’s presidential plane is about to land in Beijing.
