Since May 7th 2023, Uruguayan Minister Fernando Mattos paid an official visit to China. During his 19-day visit to China, he visited Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong, Henan, Shanghai, Jilin and Shandong, and met with senior officials from the General Administration of Customs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the State Administration of Grain Supplies and Reserves, the State Administration of Market Supervision, the Ministry of Water Resources and the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau in Beijing. Minister Fernando Mattos said that this official visit is a part of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay. He said that in 2022, the bilateral trade between China and Uruguay reached $7.4 billion USD, a figure 60 times higher than when the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1988. The visit will also create good conditions for the Uruguayan president's visit to China, which will further consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries.
