Mongolia is an important neighbor to China and was one of the first countries that established diplomatic relations with the PRC. Mongolia always supports China in many major issues related to China core interests. China attaches great importance to China and Mongolia relationship and always treats Mongolia with important foreign policy strategy. January 11th, our editor in chief had an interview with the Prime Minister of People's Republic of Mongolia Mr. Sükhbaatar Batbold in Hong Kong for the topics related to Mongolia’s strategic business plans to Hong Kong.
We presented the Home and Abroad News magazine June 2010 issue to the Prime Minister Batbold which had a cover page of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Prime Minister Batbold. Mr. Batbold was pleased to receive the magazine, and he still remembered the meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. June 1st, 2010, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visited Mongolia. He said that Mongolia and China enjoy good-neighborly partnership and mutual trust in various fields. China is Mongolia's largest trading partner and Mongolia always welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Mongolia, especially expanding investment in infrastructure construction, mineral and energy resources.
When talking about Mongolian enterprises’ strategic business plans to Hong Kong, Prime Minister Batbold said that Hong Kong is one of the world's financial centers and the main gate to mainland China market. Because China is now Mongolia's largest export destination, Hong Kong has its superior geographical advantage for Mongolian enterprises to issue IPOs in overseas stock markets.
According to previous reports, Mongolia is looking forward to attracting more investors from Hong Kong because last year's daily average of the Hong Kong stock turnover was about 120 billion U.S. dollars, while the Mongolian Stock Exchange was only 208,844 U.S. dollars over the same period.
During the interview, we learnt that China and Mongolia have great potentials in resource development, infrastructure construction and other natural resources areas. Mongolia has abundant natural resources, but the domestic market is relatively small. With lack of funds and limited technology, the country will require a lot of foreign investments to realize the potentials. On the other hand, the Chinese market is huge, and capital and technology are relatively strong. Therefore, Chinese capital and technology support can be highly complementary to Mongolian mineral resources industry. The cooperation could potentially create more economic benefits for both countries.
Lastly, Prime Minister Batbold expressed his personal wishes: China and Mongolia have great potentials for economic and trade cooperation, Mongolia will actively expand cultural exchanges with China to enhance mutual understandings and friendship between the two countries.
