November 15, 2022, the autumn in Beijing is very colorful. The red leaves are pleasing to our eyes through beautiful sceneries. On such a breezy autumn evening, Home and Abroad News Press President Wei Yan, Executive Director Liu Dengchen, Executive Deputy Editor in Chief Hu Shumeng, Vice President Guo Fengxin and Ma Lan, and Chief Translator Ryan Meng went to the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Slovak Velvet Revolution at the residence of Slovak Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Dusan Bella.

Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Dusan Bella delivered a welcoming speech. He said that today, I am honored to welcome you to the Slovak Embassy in China to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the Slovak Velvet Revolution.
这场革命推翻了极权主义政权，为当时的捷克斯洛伐克带来了自由和民主。正因为有了这场天鹅绒革命，斯洛伐克和捷克人民得以生活在自由民主的社会中。
This revolution overthrew the totalitarian regime and brought freedom and democracy to Czechoslovakia at that time. Because of the Velvet Revolution, the Slovak and Czech peoples were able to live in free and democratic societies.
过去33年中斯洛伐克经历了翻天覆地的变化——我们重建了民主，发展经济，并重新回归了我们几个世纪以来所属的区域。最重要的是，在天鹅绒革命发生不到十五年后，斯洛伐克加入了欧盟。这标志着斯洛伐克共和国的历史开启了崭新的篇章。对于我们这些在成长中曾被夺走过最基本的自由和民主的人来说，我们清楚地明白今天的这一切并非理所当然，我们应该珍惜今日的美好，并在必要时勇敢地站出来捍卫它。这也是我想在今年天鹅绒革命纪念日时再次强调的观点。
In the past 33 years, Slovakia has undergone tremendous changes - we have rebuilt democracy through developing the economy and turning the country around. Most importantly, Slovakia joined the European Union less than 15 years after the Velvet Revolution. This marked a new chapter in the history of the Slovak Republic. For those of us who have been deprived of the most basic freedom and democracy in our growth journey, we clearly understand that today’s everything is not taken for granted. We should cherish the beauty of today and bravely defend it when necessary. This is also the point I want to emphasize again today on the special occasion of the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.
在斯洛伐克的历史中,在捷克斯洛伐克联邦和平解体之后, 斯洛伐克民族委员会通过了现行宪法。斯洛伐克共和国宪法, 制定在1989年“天鹅绒革命”之后, 至今, 仍是斯洛伐克作为一个独立现代国家的基石。宪法的建立是斯洛伐克走向独立国家, 关键的一步。
In the history of Slovakia, after the peaceful dissolution of the Czechoslovak Federation, the Slovak National Council adopted the current Constitution. The Constitution of the Slovak Republic, formulated after the "Velvet Revolution" in 1989, is still the cornerstone of Slovakia as an independent modern country. The establishment of the Constitution is a key step for Slovakia to become an independent country.
我们纪念这个日子, 是对塑造我们国家性质的基本原则、价值观、自由和权利的再一次重申。这些于一个自由、民主和成功的国家至关重要。
Our commemoration of this day is a reaffirmation of the basic principles, values, freedoms and rights that shape the nature of our country. These elements are essential for a free, democratic and successful country.
活动现场，与会嘉宾还观看了短片：作家约瑟夫•巴纳斯在其最新出版的小说《停下来，杜布切克！》中对这位杰出的斯洛伐克人的描述。
During the celebration, the guests also watched a short film by Joseph Barnes’ latest novel 《Stop, Dubcek!》, which shows this outstanding qualities of Slovak people.

Slovakia is a modern and dynamic country with advanced and innovative economy, admirable culture and history, and fascinating natural landscapes. For more than ten years, Slovakia has been the country with the fastest economic development in the region. It was known as the "Tiger of Tatra", named with the local Tatra Mountains. Slovakia's economic growth is mainly driven by exports, stable foreign investment inflows and its accession to the European Union and the Euro areas.

At 7:00 p.m., the celebration followed by a relaxing dinner. The distinguished guests walked into the back garden of the ambassador's residence. It was a cool and green evening with fresh air. It was like a natural oxygen bar. There were flowers, grass, and small trees around us. The envoys and guests were eating and chatting in groups. Mrs. Wei Yan enjoyed good wine and delicious barbecue with ambassadors from other countries. Senior executives of Home and Abroad News Press spent an unforgettable time with all guests from various countries around the world.
