Mr. Willy Bett, Ambassador of Mozambique to China H.E. Mr. Manuel José Gonçalves, Ambassador of Mauritius to China H.E. Mr. Gaetan Michel Siew Hew Sam, Ambassador of Grenada to China H.E. Mr. Ian J. Marshall, Ambassador of the Bahamas to China H.E. Mrs. Paulette Anne Bethel, Ambassador of Dominica to China H.E. Mr. Martin Charles and Ambassador of Cameroon and Head of the African Diplomatic Corps in China H.E. Mr. Martin Mpana among other ambassadors to China, attended the Jamaica’s 64th Independence Day reception in Beijing. The Deputy Director-General of the Department of Latin American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sun Yi attended the event as the Chief Chinese guest and extended congratulations.

At 7:00 p.m., the national anthems of Jamaica and China were played at the venue. Ambassador of Jamaica to China H.E. Mr. Arthur Williams delivered a welcome address. He noted that as the first English-speaking country in the Caribbean to support the One-China Principle and establish diplomatic relations with China, Jamaica has consistently been a major economy in the Caribbean and one of China’s key partners in the region. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, cooperation between China and Jamaica has continued to deepen across multiple fields. In recent years, with the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, Jamaica’s strategic importance as a hub nation in the Caribbean has become increasingly prominent.

We learned that Jamaica has currently identified eight sectors as priorities for focus and potential development: agribusiness, energy, global digital services, logistics and infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and film, animation, music, and creative services.

Ambassador Arthur Williams reviewed specific aspects of exchanges between Jamaica and China and offered a new vision for the future development of bilateral relations. Jamaica also expressed gratitude for China’s valuable support for Jamaica’s development in areas such as infrastructure, public health, education, and sports. Jamaica will also continue to supply China with high-quality products such as Blue Mountain coffee, lobster, and rum, seize the development opportunities that have arisen since the establishment of diplomatic relations, enhance mutual understanding, create new opportunities, promote mutually beneficial cooperation, and continue to make solid contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

At the celebration, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Latin American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sun Yi and Ambassador of Jamaica to China H.E. Mr. Arthur Williams jointly cut the birthday cake. All ambassadors took the stage to raise their glasses in celebration, wishing Jamaica a brighter future. A video showcasing the friendly relations between China and Jamaica was screened, and the Jamaican Embassy honored three individuals for their outstanding contributions to promoting exchanges between the two countries. Jamaican artists performed amazing music shows. Fortunately, Vice President Alan Zhang of Home and Abroad News Press was lucky enough to win the first prize during the celebration raffle.
