Peru is a country with a long cultural history; it was one of the three major centers of ancient Indigenous civilizations on the American continent and the birthplace of ancient American civilization. Archaeological findings confirm that humans have lived and thrived here for more than 20,000 years, and Peru is one of the countries with the richest natural resources in Latin America. On the morning of August 7th, “Witnessing Friendship” --- 2026 Summer Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalist Delegation had an exclusive interview with Ambassador of Peru to China, H.E. Mr. Carlos Vásquez.
卡洛斯·巴斯克斯2024年曾担任亚太经合组织高级官员会议主席，卡洛斯·巴斯克斯大使不久前应邀访问清华大学，对话清华学子：共话秘鲁发展与中秘合作新机遇，这些给小记者留下深刻印象。
Ambassador Carlos Vásquez served as Chair of the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting in 2024. He recently visited Tsinghua University at the invitation of the university to engage in a dialogue with Tsinghua students on Peru’s development and new opportunities for China-Peru cooperation, which left a deep impression on the junior journalists.
卡洛斯·巴斯克斯大使在秘鲁驻华使馆热情的接待中外新闻社小记者，在主题演讲中，巴斯克斯大使从历史、经济与国际合作等多个维度介绍了秘鲁的发展现状与未来愿景，回顾了中秘两国长期友好的交往历史，并分享了秘鲁在经济转型、基础设施建设和国际合作方面的发展规划。他表示，中国已成为秘鲁最重要的伙伴之一，两国关系正不断向更高水平发展。大使表示秘鲁希望进一步深化与中国在教育、科技创新和人文交流等领域的合作。
Ambassador Carlos Vásquez warmly received the Home and Abroad News Press junior journalists at the Peruvian Embassy in China. In his keynote speech, Ambassador Vásquez outlined Peru’s current development status and future vision from multiple perspectives, including history, the economy, and international cooperation. He reviewed the long history of friendly exchanges between China and Peru and shared Peru’s development plans regarding economic transformation, infrastructure construction, and international cooperation. He noted that China has become one of Peru’s most important partners, and that bilateral relations are continuously advancing to a higher level. The ambassador expressed Peru’s hope to further deepen cooperation with China in areas such as education, scientific and technological innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.

A junior journalist asked: “Hello, Dear Ambassador Carlos! It is our great honor to have this interview with you today. As a senior diplomat, on January 16, 2026, you presented your credentials to President Xi Jinping in Beijing, officially become the Ambassador of Peru to China. In your opinions, how will the young generations of China and Peru carry forward the precious friendship that has been established between our two countries over the past 55 years? Thank you!”
卡洛斯大使谈到，中国是一个伟大、友好的国家，我很幸运来到中国当大使，大使这个职位一定要一个国家全权授权，然后能够去另外一个国家来代表自己的主权国。今年的1月16日，我在北京向中华人民共和国主席习近平递交国书，正式成为秘鲁共和国驻华大使，我的目标是推动两国合作迈向更多元的新阶段。
Ambassador Carlos noted that China is a great and friendly nation, and that he feels fortunate to have been appointed as ambassador to China. He explained that the position of ambassador requires full authorization from one’s home country to represent that sovereign nation in another country. On January 16 of this year, he presented his credentials to President Xi Jinping in Beijing, officially assuming his role as Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to China. His goal is to advance bilateral cooperation into a more diversified phase.
卡洛斯大使谈到，秘鲁和中国同为文明古国，均拥有悠久的历史与灿烂的文化。秘鲁同中国青少年是推动全球理解与合作的重要力量，希望未来能够吸引更多拉美青少年参与其中，共同探讨教育议题，我对双方未来合作前景充满信心。
Ambassador Carlos noted that Peru and China are both ancient civilizations, each with a long history and a rich culture. He added that the youth of Peru and China are important forces in promoting global understanding and cooperation, and he hopes to attract more young people from Latin America to participate in the future, working together to explore educational issues. He expressed full confidence in the prospects for future cooperation between the two countries.
“尊敬的卡洛斯大使您好，您曾担任亚太经合组织高级官员会议主席，您为亚太乃至世界和平与发展注入了新动力。今年11月，中方将在中国深圳主办APEC会议，作为中国青少年，我们很关心APEC‘中国年’如何能取得丰硕成果？谢谢！”小记者问。
“Hello, Dear Ambassador Carlos! You previously served as Chair of the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting, and you have created new momentum into peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. This November, China will host the APEC meeting in Shenzhen. As young people in China, we are very interested in how the “APEC China Year” can achieve fruitful results. Thank you!” another junior journalist asked.
大使表示，作为2024年APEC高官会主席，他对亚太合作有着深刻理解，愿为2026年APEC“中国年”提供有力支持。他特别指出，中国在大数据平台、人工智能等新兴技术领域的发展尤为引人注目。 他完全相信，2026年APEC会议必将取得圆满成功，这将是中国第三次主办APEC会议。
Ambassador Carlos stated that, as chair of the 2024 APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting, he has a deep understanding of Asia-Pacific cooperation and is willing to provide strong support for the 2026 APEC “China Year.” He specifically noted that China’s development in emerging technology fields such as big data platforms and artificial intelligence has been particularly remarkable. He is fully confident that the 2026 APEC meeting will be a complete success; this will mark the third time China has hosted an APEC meeting.
秘鲁是一个多元文化国家，传承着古老的卡拉尔文明，中秘两国在人文、文化交流方面非常密切，大使在采访中，不断地向我们介绍一下秘鲁的文化和旅游。秘鲁是南美文明与自然的交汇点，秘鲁拥有巨大的文化多样性，这得益于安第斯山脉、亚马逊地区、非裔秘鲁人和欧洲文化遗产之间的互动，这在其美食、舞蹈和手工艺品中都有所体现。
Peru is a multicultural nation that carries on the legacy of the ancient Caral civilization. China and Peru maintain very close ties in terms of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and during the interview, Ambassador Carlos repeatedly introduced us to Peru’s culture and tourism. Peru is a crossroads of South American civilization and nature. The country boasts immense cultural diversity, stemming from the interaction between the Andean Mountains, the Amazon region, Afro-Peruvian heritage, and European cultural legacies, all of which are reflected in its cuisine, dance, and handicrafts.

Ambassador Carlos briefed the junior journalists on Peru’s current state of development and its plans for international cooperation from multiple perspectives, including history, culture, and diplomacy, leaving a deep impression on all of them.
