An embassy is a diplomatic mission established by a country in the capital of a nation with which it has established diplomatic relations. An embassy represents the interests of the entire nation, bears overall responsibility for bilateral relations, is appointed by the head of state, and performs its duties as the head of state’s representative. Embassies serve as a window through which countries showcase their unique cultural charm to the world. China’s friendly and cooperative relations with other countries have developed comprehensively. Guided by the principles of equality and mutual benefits, China has actively pursued multi-level, wide-ranging, and all-round cooperation, achieving fruitful results. Young generations, in particular, are an important force driving the comprehensive development of China’s friendly and cooperative relations with other nations. Leveraging its unique positioning and strengths, Home and Abroad News Press organized the junior journalists delegation, a program dedicated to interviewing foreign press officers and diplomats, which has become an internationally recognized activity.
2026年8月3日, 中外新闻社在北京二十一世纪饭店宴会厅举行“见证友谊”-2026暑假访问外国驻华使馆小记者团（小小外交官）开团仪式。外交部原副部长助理马德强先生, 联合国国际合作协调局副局长兼新闻部长、中外新闻社总裁韦燕, 中外新闻社执行社长刘登臣, 中外新闻社常务副总编辑胡树萌先生, 中外新闻社副总裁张珈闻、中外新闻社副社长赵焕祥、陈熹等领导出席。来自广州、北京、南京、柳州、山东、河北等多名小记者经过“海选”参加中外新闻社小记者团。
On August 3, 2026, Home and Abroad News Press held the opening ceremony for the “Witnessing Friendship” --- The 2026 Summer Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalist Delegation (Little Diplomats) to Foreign Embassies in China at the banquet hall of the 21st Century Hotel in Beijing. Attendees included the former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ma Deqiang, the Deputy Director-General of the United Nations International Collaboration and Coordination and President of the Home and Abroad News Press Ms. Wei Yan, Executive Director Mr. Liu Dengchen, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mr. Hu Shumeng, Vice President Mr. Zhang Jiawen, Mr. Zhao Huanxiang, Ms. Chen Xi, among other senior executives. Many junior journalists from Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanjing, Liuzhou, Shandong, Hebei, and other regions joined the Junior Journalist Delegation after passing a “open audition” process.

Ms. Wei Yan delivered an important speech to the junior journalists who were actively preparing for their interviews with the foreign embassies. She said that Home and Abroad News Press has established its brand and developed its own distinctive style throughout its continuous development. The role it plays on the international stage has earned high recognition from governments around the world, and the agency has won numerous international awards. The purpose of organizing the “Witnessing Friendship” --- Home and Abroad News Press 2026 Summer Junior Journalist Delegation (Little Diplomats) to Foreign Embassies in China, is to pass on the excellent diplomatic demeanor and solid writing skills of the senior journalists to these young reporters. She urged them to cherish this learning opportunity. They are “Friendship Ambassadors” connecting the world. When interviewing diplomats at the embassies of the countries they visit, we hope they will demonstrate the healthy, positive, and friendly spirit of Chinese youth. At the meeting, Vice President of the Home and Abroad News Press Mr. Alan Zhang introduced each country to be visited in this interview series. He also provided practical training on diplomatic etiquettes, interviewing techniques, and news headline writing skills.

At the meeting, each junior journalist introduced themselves in English. President Wei Yan announced the delegation leaders: Team Leader Zhang Muzhen (Shandong Foreign Language High School); Deputy Leaders: Gui Kang (Liuzhou No. 1 Railway Middle School) and Fu Jinyang (Xianghe No. 5 Primary School, Langfang City, Hebei Province); Secretary-General: Chen Jiajun (Liuzhou No. 8 Middle School); Deputy Secretary-General: Zhang Ruizhe (Pukou Experimental Primary School, Nanjing). The leadership team then took a group photo with President Wei Yan.

The former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ma Deqiang and President Wei Yan waved the team flag on stage before handing it over to Team Leader Zhang Muzhen. Starting on August 4th, the delegation will interview ambassadors and diplomats from the embassies of seven countries in China, including Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Peru, Pakistan, Laos, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
小记者们在出征仪式上分别作了发言, 他们为能够有机会与各国政府驻华高级官员“零距离”对话感到由衷的兴奋和激动, 纷纷表示, 要珍惜此次机会了解各国的文化和教育, 感受各国外交官的智慧、热情与友好, 学习外交官的外交风范, 同时提高自己的英语水平。
At the opening ceremony, the junior journalists gave speeches, and they expressed sincere excitement and enthusiasm at having the opportunity to engage in “face-to-face” dialogue with senior diplomats from various countries in China. They all stated that they would cherish this opportunity to learn about the cultures and education systems of different countries, experience the wisdom, enthusiasm, and friendliness of diplomats from around the world, learn from the diplomats’ professional manners, and improve their English proficiency at the same time.
