Mozambique, a country located in southeastern Africa, boasts rich natural scenery and unique cultural heritages. From magnificent beaches to mysterious virgin forests, and from hospitable locals to exotic cuisine, Mozambique is undoubtedly a destination worth visiting. On the morning of August 5th, “Witnessing Friendship” --- 2026 Summer Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalist Delegation interview with the Ambassador of Mozambique to China H.E. Mr. Manuel José Gonçalves.
贡萨尔维斯大使曾担任莫桑比克外交部副部长，长期服务于莫桑比克外交领域，是莫桑比克资深外交官，精通葡萄牙语、英语，熟悉双边经贸与国家礼宾事务，还出任莫桑比克总统丹尼尔·查波的外交事务首席顾问，重点对接对华合作事宜。他为了接待中外新闻社小记者，早早地在使馆会议厅等候。一见面，非常亲切，一一问候，欢迎小记者的到访，并愉快的接受中外新闻社总裁韦燕颁发的中外新闻社大使俱乐部证书。
Ambassador Gonçalves previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique and has a long career in the country’s diplomatic service. As a seasoned diplomat, he is fluent in Portuguese and English and well-versed in bilateral economic and trade relations as well as state protocol. He also serves as Chief Advisor on Foreign Affairs to Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo, with a particular focus on cooperation with China. To welcome the Home and Abroad News Press junior journalists, he arrived early at the embassy’s conference hall. He kindly greeted to each one and graciously accepted the Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club certificate presented by President Wei Yan.
贡萨尔维斯大使向小记者们介绍莫桑比克国家。莫桑比克位于非洲东南部，是联合国、南部非洲发展共同体、不结盟运动、英联邦、伊斯兰会议组织、环印度洋地区合作联盟、葡语国家共同体和非洲联盟成员国。1993年，联合国维和部队进驻莫桑比克。
Ambassador Gonçalves introduced Mozambique to the junior journalists. Located in southeastern Africa, Mozambique is a member of the United Nations, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Non-Aligned Movement, the Commonwealth, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation, the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, and the African Union. In 1993, United Nations peacekeeping forces were deployed to Mozambique.

At the meeting, President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press fondly recalled the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mozambique is a sporting powerhouse that has produced numerous Olympic champions. During the interview session, a junior journalist asked: “Hello, Dear Ambassador! You are a young and dynamic diplomat, and It is our honor to interview you today. On April 21, 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing with Mozambican President Chapo, who was in China on a state visit. The two heads of state agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a “China-Mozambique Community with a Shared Future.” In your opinion, how can young generations of China and Mozambique carry forward the precious friendship between our two countries with their wisdom and efforts? Thank you!”
贡萨尔维斯大使谈到，这是一个好问题。我是今年3月接到命令到中国任职，我感到很荣幸，因为中国是一个友好国家，同莫桑比克友谊深厚，莫中传统友谊是在双方并肩反对帝国主义和殖民主义、实现莫桑比克政治解放的斗争中凝结而成的，并在各自国家建设进程中不断巩固。双方政治上高度互信，经济上高度互补，是互利共赢、共同发展的好伙伴，平等相待、相互支持的好朋友，风雨同舟、患难与共的好兄弟。
Ambassador Gonçalves replied that this was a good question. I received my assignment to serve in China this March, and I feel deeply honored, as China is a friendly nation with which Mozambique shares a deep bond of friendship. The traditional friendship between Mozambique and China was forged during the struggle in which both sides stood shoulder to shoulder against imperialism and colonialism to achieve Mozambique’s political liberation, and it has been continuously strengthened throughout the process of national development in both countries. The two sides enjoy a high degree of political mutual trust and economic complementarity; we are good partners for mutual benefit, win-win outcomes, and common development; good friends who treat each other as equals and support one another; and good brothers who stand together through thick and thin and share each other’s hardships.
莫中两国青少年如何传承两国的宝贵友谊应该从互相了解对方的历史、文化开始，莫桑比克学生也有在中国留学, 两国学生应该多多交流, 互相关注对方国的重要事件, 共同推动莫桑比克同中国友好关系的发展。
To carry forward the precious friendship between our two nations, the youth of Mozambique and China should begin by gaining a mutual understanding of each other’s history and culture. There are also Mozambican students studying in China; students from both countries should engage in more exchanges, take an interest in each other’s major national events, and work together to promote the development of friendly relations between Mozambique and China.

“Hello, Dear Ambassador! I am an animal lover. Mozambique has abundant natural resources and unique biodiversity. I know that the national parks of South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe have been merged into a single entity to create the world’s largest wildlife reserve. Could you please tell us how Mozambique protects those endangered wildlife? Thank you!”
大使说，莫桑比克政府一直以来，采取了一系列措施来保护野生动物，包括制定和执行相关法律法规，加强执法力度，打击非法猎杀和贸易。南非、莫桑比克和津巴布韦3国国家公园合三为一，打造世界最大的野生动物保护区，不仅使国家变得美好，也保护了整个国家的自然资源。
The ambassador said that the Mozambican government has consistently taken a series of measures to protect wildlife, including enacting and enforcing relevant laws and regulations, strengthening law enforcement, and combating poaching and illegal trade. The merger of the national parks of South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe into a single entity, creating the world’s largest wildlife reserve, has not only made the country a better place but has also protected its natural resources.

“Dear Ambassador, Mozambique is a country rich in history and cultural resources. It boasts abundant tourism resources, and the Island of Mozambique was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 for its unique urban layout, fortifications, and other outstanding architectural features. The Island of Mozambique bears witness to the convergence of Eastern and Western civilizations. My parents, my family, and I would love to visit Mozambique. Could you please tell us: What is the best time to visit Mozambique? Thank you!” another junior journalist asked.
“告诉你一个非常好的信息，现在去莫桑比克旅游是免签的。莫桑比克一年有两个季节: 雨季和旱季。去旅游最好是每年的5月到8月，因为是旱季，气温也是差不多25°左右。”大使说。
“Here’s some great news: you can now travel to Mozambique visa-free. Mozambique has two seasons a year: rain season and dry season. The best time to visit is from May to August, which is the dry season, when temperatures hover around 25°.” said the ambassador.
小记者问: 大使阁下您好！您曾担任莫桑比克外交部副部长，长期服务于莫桑比克外交领域，是莫桑比克资深外交官，精通葡萄牙语、英语，熟悉双边经贸与国家礼宾事务。还出任莫桑比克总统丹尼尔·查波的外交事务首席顾问，重点对接对华合作事宜。请问：您对我们中国小小外交官成长有哪些建议和指导？谢谢！

“首先要坚持阅读，世界每一天都在改变，你们必须要与时俱进，了解世界上发生的事情，也要培养自己的领导才能，然后不能够把错误的信息传递给别人，那如果给了别人不好的建议，或者是错误的信息，会导致很严重的后果，要想方设法的来建立本国与各国之间的友好关系。”大使强调。
“First and foremost, you must keep reading. The world is changing every day, and you must keep pace with the times, stay informed about what’s happening in the world, and cultivate your leadership skills. You must also avoid passing on misinformation to others, giving others bad advice or incorrect information can lead to very serious consequences. You must do everything in your power to build friendly relations between your country and other nations.” the ambassador emphasized.
采访结束，小记者给贡萨尔维斯大使赠送自己从家乡带来的礼物和创作的书画作品，祝福贡萨尔维斯大使在中国工作、生活愉快。一时间，互相友好的祝福声、孩子们朗朗的笑声、喝彩声、问候声回响在莫桑比克大使馆的会议厅…合影时，贡萨尔维斯大使和小记者们齐声欢呼：中莫友谊万岁！
At the end of the interview, the junior journalists presented Ambassador Gonçalves with gifts they had brought from their hometowns, as well as calligraphy and paintings they had created themselves, wishing him a pleasant stay and a fulfilling life in China. For a moment, the conference hall of the Mozambican Embassy filled with hearty laughter, cheers, and greetings… As they posed for a group photo, Ambassador Gonçalves and the junior journalists cheered together: “China-Mozambique friendship last forever!”
